I am an American Girl

So today at work I got to do the American Girls Book Club. The character this month was Julie. Julie is from 1974, her mom and dad are divorced, and she has to start all over again at a new school. The kids today cracked me up!

First of all there were at least 35 kids there (I have to count my leftovers to be sure). That's a HUGE number for a book club!! The girls were just sooo darling too! Many of them brought their dolls with them and many of them thought the 1970s were forever ago! Many told me that their parents were born in the 70s as well!

The discussion itself was HILARIOUS! The girls would piggy back off of each other and we went way far off on a tangent...it took a little bit to pull them back in, but it was highly entertaining for me!

Then we played Lingo Bingo! My co-worker made me bingo cards with 70s phrases like "far out", "groovy", etc. The girls went CRAZY over it! They were playing for Smarties and everybody got some, but they were just soooooo into it! That was fun!

Then I taught them some dance moves and we grooved to The Hustle! Many of the girls played along and got so into it that they groaned when the song was over. I had plenty of hits from 1974 to keep us going...which I turned on when we did our craft.

Here's me showing off my awesome peace sign medalion:

Best part was when I got about 20 of them to sing "Buh buh buh Benny and the Jets" with me! They were just too darn cute!!!

All in all it was a highly successful program and I'll be looking forward to doing next month's program!

As for the song challenge: Day 26 – A song that you can play on an instrument. Although I studied piano for a couple of years, I never practiced--so I never really learned to play well. I can read music, but it takes me FOREVER to add in the left hand! While my current playing on the piano mainly consists of playing the melody with my right hand (with an occasional chord), if I tried I could still play all of Part of Your World from Disney's the Little Mermaid. It's one of my jams :)

  1. That sounds so incredibly cool! I would really love to do an AG book club. Although I am still mad at them for "retiring" my favorite girl. I hope you're doing a Samantha day because she's far and away the best!
