So, I just came to the realization today that this is the FIRST summer that I've been through without my Grammy...gosh I miss her...
Even when I lived away in NY, I always visited Michigan in the late spring/early summer every year and went to see my Grammy. On the nice days, you could find her outside on her porch swing watching the kids playing in the park across the street.
Growing up, we always went and played in that park--and every now and then we'd play on the baseball diamonds when they were free. So many great memories of the twisty slide, the swings, the tire swing, the monkey bars, etc.
Grammy loved that silly porch though, and she spent many hours out there with Buddy (her last dog) at her feet, just watching the neighborhood.
As I got older, I loved just sitting there with her talking. She was full of great stories and always had the latest gossip. She always made sure that I had something to eat. In the summer it was usually some type of ice cream like drumsticks or ice cream sandwiches--and if she wanted to give you something extra special, she'd make you a milkshake! You could say no if you'd like, but you were getting something anyways, so it was just easier to accept :)
So James, this is why we need a porch swing on the porch of our future non-existent home. I want to sit out there when the weather's nice and just chat or watch whatever surrounds the house...
