On Saturday, Melissa and I went to Big Bone Lick. Melissa made friends with some locals by talking bout gnomes...lol! Then because we were feeling adventurous, we went down a handful of deserted roads and ended up in Rabbit Hash. If you don't know what it is, then you're missing out. The city actually elects dogs to be their mayors. It's pretty awesome!
In the late afternoon, we went on a casino tour. Neither of us really won, but we didn't really lose either. All in all it was good fun! Then we came back here and had some of the birthday brownie cake my mom sent down here for Melissa. It was super yummy!
On Sunday, we woke up early and went to church. Then we went up to Newport. Anyone who visits will be taken up there at some point since it is loads of fun!
First off we went to the aquarium, which was super fun:
After the Aquarium, we rode the duck. Unfortunately because we've had way too much rain here as of late, the river level is too high for the ducks to go in the water. So we had a land tour instead. All in all, I enjoyed it even if it wasn't Melissa's fave thing...but we did get awesome duck whistles out of the deal:
After the duck ride, we went to Hofbrauhaus for authentic German beers. Since it was super hot out, the beer was quite refreshing!
Then because we're insane, we walked from Newport over the "Purple People" bridge into Cincinnati. First off we went to the Tate Museum, since it had free admission on Sundays. There were some really awesome things in there! Here's a few of my faves:
Then we walked through the "Taste of Cincinnati" fest...we were pretty full from our lunch and beer, so we just strolled through.
I am a major dork, however, and I played along with the Schick Quattro people. I got an extra free shaver for taking a photo for them:

Then we walked back to KY over the suspension bridge which is quite a walk from Newport. All in all it was a great walk--roughly 4-5 miles!! We got to see tons of pre-Civil War mansions that were just absolutely gorgeous and there are just so many wonderfully historic things to check out! It was great...I just wish it weren't quite so hot...I was dripping by the time we made it back to the Levee.
Once we got back, Melissa and I decided to take in a movie. We saw "Bridesmaids" and I loved it! I laughed pretty hard :) I'm pretty sure she enjoyed it too!
Then today, we went out for a Chick-fil-A breakfast since I always rave to her how wonderful it is! lol! Then we went to Old Navy where I got some great deals on some shirts for work (hard to resist when the most I paid for anything was $4). Then we went and saw "Something Borrowed" before we had a yummy Bdubs lunch of appetizers!
Now, sadly she is driving back to Michigan and our weekend of fun is over :(
if i ever make it down to KY i want to see those mansions!
ReplyDeleteYou got it Carrie! I know you'd love 'em!
ReplyDeleteI'm kinda jealous that I don't have one of those duck whistles. It kinda blows (haha, whistles...) that you didn't get to hit the water with the ducks though.
ReplyDeleteThat chest from the Museum looks pretty sweet no lie.
