So Tuesday was voting day. This year I got really into it. I love voting and I wish more people would get out there and exercise their right to vote! However, I think we're getting better at rocking the vote. I think it's safe to say that 90% of my friends made it to the polls. I was so excited to get up and vote that I was like a kid waiting for Santa to come and I woke up every 30 minutes.
Eventually it was morning and I got to go to the polls! My mom and I walked down to our voting location and got in line at 6:40. The polls didn't open til 7, and we were already over 20 people deep in line. In fact I was number 23 according to my ballot. All in all it took about an hour to get through the line and vote but it was awesome!
Then all day long I wore my sticker and encouraged others to get out there and vote! I think it's fantastic that we had such a great turnout and although the close polls made me nervous about the outcomes, I was happy to know that people were actually paying more attention this time around. Ever since I've started voting I have never seen so much civic engagement as I did this year! It's wonderful!!!
All in all, I am happy with most of the election results. I'm just hoping that people can put their differences aside now and move forward for the sake of everyone in this great country!!
Then on Wednesday I went to the Michigan Library Association (MLA) conference. It was super fun! I got to meet a good group of librarians and hear some interesting presentations. Plus, I got to meet a lot of interesting vendors and score some awesome swag! It was downtown this year at Cobo, so I was also lucky enough to get a ride from my awesome dad down there. Then after the conference I hopped on the People Mover and took it over to Greektown casino where my dad and I played for a bit during rush hour before heading home! We both lost, but it was still fun :)
Thursday night Dearborn Public Library hosted the MLA reception. We had beer, wine, and munchies while our building was open to all of the conference members. My boss and I sat at our reference desk and answered people's questions. Because we weren't on the clock, I had a beer and she had a glass of wine. However, since I was basically drinking out of a beer bottle on the children's ref desk, everyone had a good laugh--I was also the most photographed person of the night. Librarians love having a good time!
All in all, I am having a good time. Life is great! Bring on the fun times :)
