I'm a Gleek. I tried really hard to avoid the show and not get into it, but I did and now I really don't like missing an episode...
This past week's episode was insane but fun. They were doing "Grease" for their spring musical, and therefore it was cheesy fun.
I love "Grease". When I was a kid, I wanted to be Sandra Dee. I actually had tight black pants and a black turtleneck that I'd wear when I was taking on the persona. Because nobody wanted to be goody-two-shoes Sandra Dee! I wanted to be the Sandra Dee that says "Tell Me About it Stud".
I also had a huge thing for Danny Zuko and Kenickie...I thought they were the coolest guys! Plus when John Travolta sings "Sandy" at the drive in, I was totally in love. He just had such awesome range and he was too cool for school!
Now before you think my parents are crazy for letting their 5 year old get obsessed with Grease, you should know that they didn't actually let me see the real version of the film until I was much older. They had taped a TV version of the movie and that was pretty darn clean. With most TV versions, many of the words were altered and scenes like "Blue Moon" were omitted completely! Let me tell ya--I was like "whoa" when I heard the real words to Greased Lighting and saw the T-Birds mooning the camera...but I have always loved it both ways!
I also remember a few years back when they had a reality show to cast the latest Broadway version of Grease. Not only did I watch the entire reality series, but I went to the show when it was in previews as well...and to make me an even bigger dork, I took pics with the cast after the show too!
So for Glee to choose "Grease", it was pretty much my dream come true. "You're the one that I want."
Plus you know you wanted to fly away in a red convertible as much as I did!!!
