My, my, my

So per usual time is flying by! March is almost halfway over already! This is insanity!

Quick updates:

*Health: still not great; seeing a gastroenterologist in 2 weeks...probably getting a colonoscopy eventually since the tests so far have been pretty inconclusive...all we know for sure is that I have colitis...finding the cause is still a work in progress. Some days are definitely better than others.

*Work: super duper busy. I've got so much on my plate right now it's ridiculous! I'm trying to get through Family Reading Night and planning for Summer Reading, but both of things have been less than smooth...Oh and there's that 6 week leadership training I'm in the middle of--while the training is great, it is taking up a big chunk of my time making it harder to get the daily things completed!

*Family: I was back in Michigan last weekend for my great aunt and uncle's 50th wedding anniversary! They are so frickin cute and it was truly a good thing worth celebrating! Not too many couples make it to 50 years these days :( Ang and Kevin just found out--it's a girl! So, I'll be getting my first niece in July! Super exciting stuff! I think Owen will be a great big brother :) Melissa and my rents are great! I love spending time with them!

*Lent: As many of you know Lent began yesterday. This year I'm going to give up gambling and do my best to give up stress for Lent. Neither of these things are good for me, but I take pleasure in both (yeah I'm a little twisted...stress makes me feel like I'm more important or something).

*Netflix: Watched season 1 of "Hot in Cleveland"--Betty White was hysterical! I loved it! I also watched "For Colored Girls" (really well done, but super sad), "Life As We Know It" (made me angry bc I predicted the outcome and real life just doesn't work that way...I'm not going to get a hott Josh Duhamel in my life), and "Morning Glory" (which was just okay). I also had my family watch "Despicable Me" while I was home! I think that movie is just super cute!

*Social commentary: So we had staff development day at work today and it was super frustrating. Our first speaker was all "give the people what they want" and dumb things down. She was an advocate for getting rid of Dewey, physical books, and library buildings...not exactly a morale booster! Here's what I hate about society...everyone wants instant gratification. With apps and ebooks and digital everything, people have lost the ability to wait. Patience is going out the door and we're growing accustomed to short shelf-life for EVERYTHING! Seriously...almost all new gadgets are expected to have a life of about 18 months. We throw away everything! 50 years ago when you went to buy a TV, you were buying a piece of furniture that would last--I mean my parents still have a console TV from forever ago that works just fine! Now, within 2-3 years you have to get a new HDTV because they break! It's just bullshit. People, why don't you want quality? Why don't you want to learn new things? Why can't our children write in cursive anymore? Why is this country becoming more and more illiterate? Don't get me wrong, I'm all for change in a library, but don't tell me that what I do on a daily basis is irrelevant. Contrary to belief, you can't find EVERYTHING on the internet...and kids, Wikipedia is NOT a good source for your research papers. OH and I'd love to see you make me do a storytime with an e-reader...seriously? If you stop printing picture books, you will make me mad publishers if you take away this format. E-readers may "read aloud" books, but it's not the same as holding it in your hands...and it's super important to develop your imagination. STOP force-feeding our kids garbage. Oh and I hate to break it to you, but YOUR BABY CANNOT READ! Quit trying to market us this garbage! Children learn through play, not through crappy DVD sets.

Okay, that feels better to get that out :) I hope all is well with everyone else!
