Man of Steel and other movies...
Okay so I saw "Man of Steel" this morning and I have to say...even Christopher Nolan couldn't make a good movie out of Superman. It was just alright. I think the biggest problem is the alien aspect. I felt the same way about "Thor". It just gets super cheesy when you have humans fighting aliens. The aliens are always faster, stronger, better...without a superhero we lose. LAME!
I think that's why I'm a bigger fan of the Iron Man and Batman movies. There's something much more fascinating to me about humans fighting humans. Those stories are all about the pure essence of good and bad in the human race. They are in many ways darker and more believable.
However, Henry Cavill is one hot Superman! I think he was a good choice for the role, but the plot was just so meh. Lots of cgi action scenes and whatnot. Worth seeing? Maybe.
I'd much rather recommend "Iron Man 3" or "The Internship". Hear me out:
"Iron Man 3" is everything I've come to expect from my superhero movies: fun, action, heavy plot, hot superhero guy, ups & downs, and a side love story angle. Plus Robert Downey Jr is Iron Man. I also feel that Colin Firth is Mr. Darcy. Certain people just play the characters so well that you become biased to them and never want to see another play them. So far--"Iron Man 3" has been my favorite action movie of the summer--but I still have to see the Fast & Furious and Star Trek movies.
As for "The Internship", I know the previews aren't great, but the story is. If you've ever felt like you suck at life or that you're not really sure that you're good at anything...this movie is all about how everyone is good at something and often you need to surround yourself with people that are different from you in order to get the best ideas and the most accomplished. Plus Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn are an awesome on screen duo. They always make me laugh! Plus, Melissa was surprised that she liked this one as much as she did (she's a pretty tough movie critic too...so now you should go see it for yourself).

Star Trek is amazing. You should definitely see it.
ReplyDeleteI'm not looking forward to seeing Superman but Danny wants to. I have the same thoughts about human v. alien not being entertaining.
Saw Iron Man 3 this weekend and OMG loved it. Totally agree with your take on what makes a superhero interesting. Now, you need to come east so we can see "The Wolverine" together!
