Some thoughts...

So because I haven't felt like doing much of anything, I have been watching the news, and some netflix.

First of all, all the unrest in the Middle East is kinda scary. It is hard to watch protesters get brutally attacked. In Libya protesters are being shot at and the press can't really get in. We're watching so much of it unfold on social media...this most recent death toll number was around 170...it's just so sad. And it's not just there...it's spreading like rapid fire over there--Tunisia, Egypt, Bahrain, Yemen, Libya, etc. It is having a major domino effect.

And then there are many troubling stories here in the U.S. In Wisconsin, they want to take away collective bargaining from unions. While unions aren't perfect, they hold a great value to our society and they are the number one reason people are allowed to strike for fair business practices. Sadly, since the Reagan era, unions have really been phased out little by little, but I think that's crap. Maybe that's why the numbers of a recent story showed that the average middle class worker is making $400 less a year--the stats were taken from 1988 and 2008. Total bs. The rich are getting richer, no doubt. The middle class is stagnant. Middle class salaries aren't even rising with inflation. No wonder it's so hard to make a living...

Then there's the super sad story about Prichard, Alabama. The local government there ran out of money for pensions and just stopped paying them. The city was warned years in advance that if it didn't do something, it would run out of money to pay pensions. So rather than doing something, the city council and mayor ignored that warning. Now there are a bunch of retirees being forced to file bankruptcy and fight in legal battles for the money that they were supposed to get. It's wrong to just stop paying them all together! As one of the ladies on tv said, I'm sure that the city council members and the mayor is still getting paid...if they had to go months (and in some cases years) without pay, how would they feel?

It really irks me how we treat our elders in this country. It's just like...you're old, so whatever. We really need to fix that attitude.

I guess I could go on, but I'm not really supposed to stress or anything...and this stuff gets me fired up.

Other than that it's just been a lot of netflix and napping...I am napping like all the time...it's sort of crazy.

  1. I feel you Kat. And that's why I don't watch the news. I can't take it. But I love the Daily Show, Colbert Report and TIME magazine - so hopefully I'm informed enough.
