Hello peeps! I am once again healthy :) Somehow I caught some sort of stomach bacterial infection and with my not-so-awesome immune system I needed the powerhouse antibiotics to kick its butt...in turn they also kicked mine! Ten days of heavy duty antibiotics is rough!
So what have I been doing? Basically I've been watching a lot of Netflix, reading, and resting. I have to say that the HBO John Adams mini-series was really well done! Long, but totally worth watching!
I also rewatched Despicable Me, Up, and Wall-e...all of which I really enjoyed!
I could go on with the list of movies watched while ill: I am Love, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 4, Love in the Afternoon, His Girl Friday, April in Paris, A League of their Own, By the People the Election of Barack Obama, and probably more that I can't seem to remember right now.
While I was sick, I also had the misfortune of having the heat go out. It got soooo cold here that the outside unit froze. Luckily the maintenance guy came out and fixed it for me and I wasn't without heat for long :) I do have to say that they do a really good job with maintenance issues here! Sure beats waiting for the super to get to it when he has a chance (which many times took weeks).
Other than that, I've been working. It has been super insane at work because many people have sort of forgot that I'm still "new" because I've been learning the job so quickly! In a way that's good, but in a way it is tough because many people expect me to know what I'm doing without instruction...a lot of "didn't you..." and me saying "no I didn't know..." For me it's super frustrating, but I am still learning. Hopefully by next year I'll be a pro :) But seriously I'm not trying to complain...I really do love my job!
I've also been crocheting a bit more. I've been trying really hard to figure out my Grammy's pattern for towel toppers...I'm getting close, but haven't perfected it yet...hopefully I will sometime this year! I wish she was here for me to ask her... Ugh, I miss her like crazy! It would've been her birthday Jan 29...from time to time I still wish I could give her a call and hear her scold me about not having done my laundry yet! lol! I think she'd like me living in Kentucky much more than NYC...she was always freaked out about lil ol me being in the big ol city.
I've also been using Freegal to get free and legal music downloads from my library. Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" is one of my best acquisitions! I heard an interview with her on the radio today and when she was getting to record that song she was super upset. Apparently she had walked in on her boyfriend and another woman earlier...she was so full of fury that her heart was racing. In order to use that fury and anger in a positive way, they actually set the back beat of the song to the same tempo as her racing heartbeat that day! It's definitely a song of vengeance, but it is soooo well done! I definitely recommend giving it a listen!
I've also been thinking a lot. When I don't feel like physically doing much, I let my mind race! I have to say I love Kentucky's slogan of "Unbridled Spirit". I find it very fitting in describing me as well! I always want to have an amazing spirit for life!
I also recently worked with one of the older women at my work on the adult reference desk and she's quite a talker! It was a total blast! She and her husband recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary! I think that's totally wonderful :) Although imagining being with someone for such a long amount of time seems really hard to achieve...yet she said the key is simple: she loves him for his faults, not despite them and vice versa; they're each other's best friend and when times got tough they decided to grow together and work through their issues rather than give up.
That of course got me to thinking about what I want in life. Ideally in five years, I'd like to have a house, a spouse, and a baby. I don't know if it's in the cards for me, but part of me really wants those things. I think I could also be happy with just a house and less debt, but someone to share it with would be nice too! Time will tell I suppose!
The debt free thing is something I'd really like to accomplish! I've got 7 years left on my student loans! THREE whole years paid! Time really does begin to go a lot faster the older you get! Somehow I really have no idea what happened to my January! There were tons of meetings at work and being sick and all really threw me off my game! Now it's February!
I hope everyone else is well :)
I'm glad you're feeling better and things are going well. I also loved the John Adams miniseries. Very well done.
