So today, I had a children's workshop with Jim Gill. He is a super cool guy! He's sort of the Bruce Springsteen of children's songs according to my co-worker...she came in teasing "Jiiiiiiiiiiiiiiimmm" in equivalent to the way Springsteen's fans shout "Bruce." It had us all laughing!
It was a great workshop because it reminded me of how important it is to be silly with kids. We can't teach our babies to read, like some current advertising methods may lead people to believe, BUT we can get our babies ready to read! By using play, our kids will learn!
I learned lots of silly songs and techniques! I'm almost ready to start doing a tots storytime in the near future! I have a few more things to learn, but I really am enjoying myself. Maybe that's why I'm a youth librarian...kids can tell I'm having fun, and they want to participate too? That's what I'm hoping!
I love the work I do, and I'm glad that I can just be carefree! I can sing silly songs, and jump up and down, and get kids excited about reading! Really is there anything better in the world? Probably not! Now if I could only get Jim Gill's "Took A Bath In A Washing Machine" out of my head...
I am now a fan :-)
