So, work is starting to pick up for me, and it's both exciting and overwhelming. Here's hoping I continue to pick things up quickly!
This past weekend, I went to Louisville and saw my Tasha! It was great! It's nice knowing that I have at least one friend in Kentucky, even if I don't get to see her all of the time. We caught up on girl talk and even went to a winery/orchard. Super fun fall activities!
Unfortunately on Sunday, I came home to unwanted house guests. I had a combination of five hornets and wasps hanging out in my living room on the patio door. I keep praying that it was a freak accident, but I also sprayed the patio and temporarily sealed off the chimney in hopes that no more find their way in. I don't know how they got in, and I really hope there aren't anymore. Insects with stingers scare the crap out of me! I was really lucky that the maintenance guy was on the property--he came over and killed them all for me. Otherwise, I would've probably screamed and slept in the car. I'm kind of crazy like that.
My mind's been kind of in a crazy state overall though...I'm kind of mad at society. We forget things so easily. It makes me mad that horrible things happen in the world, and we forget them. What's going on in the Gulf? Is it all magically cleaned up without any bad effects on nature? DOUBTFUL! Are the people of Haiti and New Orleans (and everywhere else) recouped from the damage of their hurricanes? DOUBTFUL! And then there's the war...we've been fighting in Afghanistan for NINE years! NINE YEARS?!?!?!? Think that's resolving itself? DOUBTFUL!
Instead society cares more about the stupidity of the cast of Jersey Shore, whether Brett Farve left inappropriate messages for a female sideline sportscaster, and what Kim Kardashian wore today. It's shallow and sad. We care for a short amount of time and then it's over. We move on to pettier things.
It's just sad. The World Trade Center is still a big hole in the ground. Children are killing themselves because they're being bullied for being different. Our KY government building flags here are lowered to half staff almost everyday in remembrance of a soldier killed in battle (for those who were from KY or stationed here).
I'm sorry to be preachy sounding...I've just had lots of time to think bout...well EVERYTHING. Pop culture is fun. I just feel bad for those who get consumed by it. There are way too many other things to care about that actually matter.
I totally agree with you Kat. It's SO sad. I have my Blue Water Vets who have been screwed by the US government for 40 years and there is no end in sight.
ReplyDeleteMy sentiments exactly! One of the reasons I COMPLETELY gave up television earlier this year. I do slip however with a once in a while viewing of The Family Guy (When I need to laugh hysterically). But you already new all that :-)
