So the beloved weekend of Owen's birthday is here and I'm back in Michigan!
Yesterday, I flew in early, and my dad picked me up from the airport. My dad and I had some awesome conversations about this and that and then my mom came home and joined in too. It's weird how as you get older, it can actually become enjoyable to talk to your parents, just for the sake of talking!
Eventually, it came time for me to go pick Owen up from school! It was pretty adorable! He came up the stairs, saw me, his eyes got real big, he screamed "Kiki" and ran into my arms for a big hug...(he did this for my sister too, because us aunts are just that cool)...
Owen and I came back to my parents house, changed him out of his uniform, ran around like crazy people and then went to Build-A-Bear so he could pick out a bear and build it for his bday present like he wanted to :) He picked the Autumn Hugs Bear and decided that he needed to be dressed in the Spider Man Outfit. Once the bear's transformation was complete, Owen named him...wait for it...SPIDERBEAR :)
Eventually Melissa and I ended up at Angela's house where we all played the new Beatles RockBand game! It's pretty awesome :)
Then Melissa and I came home to my parents house. I went in my room and I heard a chirping. It got louder and louder as I got to the stairs by the basement... I listened and freaked out! I couldn't tell what it was, but because its chirping changed rythms so often, I convinced myself it was a baby bird that needed help! I ran to get my dad. He said "leave me alone I'm watching tv". So, Melissa came and said she was 98% sure it was a cricket, but 2% that it could be a bird. My dad finally decided to shut me up and put on his shoes, grabbed a flashlight and an empty peanut butter jar and went downstairs...
Being the wimp I am, I watched from the top of the stairs. My dad flashed the light this way and that, and then stopped next to a towel that was at the bottom of the stairs (our laundry room is downstairs, so we sometimes toss stuff to the bottom)...he crouched down, positioned the jar, and ever so carefully...GRABBED the towel and got the cricket inside!
Loving to tease us he started running up the stairs with the cricket in the jar! Melissa and I ran for the bathroom and hid inside screaming like we were little little girls all over again. Eventually we opened the door and my dad shoved the jar in to scare us some more before he took it outside and let it free.
Now, I think I've been in the city too long because that cricket sounded way too loud to me! It was "so loud" that it convinced me it was a bird... Plus I ran away from it in terror...wow. Apparently I've been away from nature for too long...not sure how I feel bout this...
