Rest of the weekend round up

Yesterday, I woke up and went to church with my Dad. While it wasn't the most inspiring homily, I do love starting my Sundays with church. I like the formality of a Catholic mass. I also like the tradition of getting donuts afterwards... We love the Looney Baker and it just doesn't seem like a Sunday without their treats!

Later in the afternoon, Melissa and I went to see Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. While it was super different from the book, I really liked it. I felt Tim Burton did a great job of capturing the essence of the story, even if he changed a lot of the details... I love these characters in the books, and I think the characterization was spot on--even if again the details were a bit off (like Olive and Emma's peculiarities are switched in the movie).

After the movie, we went to Golden Chopsticks for sushi. They're a local place without a lot of bells and whistles, but they're good. We ordered just the right amount so that I didn't feel overstuffed! We also stopped into a Halloween store, and got super irritated with the number of "sexy" costumes for women. You never see those for men...ugh, don't even get me started...I ended up ruining the night with watching the presidential debate and the amount of misogyny displayed made me sick...I just don't get it...

On a brighter note, I just got in from a walk outside. I like taking walks on my lunch break when I can, and although it's super cold outside compared to the last few weeks, I delighted in my walk. The sun is shining, without a cloud in the sky...the leaves are also starting to change making everything a bit more beautiful...I'm grateful to be able to take strolls outside and take it all in.
